EMDR - Trauma Therapy

 (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

Are you struggling with thoughts and memories of difficult or traumatic events? Having disturbing dreams or nightmares? Is there an area of your life that has been challenging that you would you like to better understand and change the way you think and respond to?

Sometimes, difficult events or situations undermine our sense of who we are. The loss of a job or relationship can leave us feeling like we've been knocked off our feet undermining our sense of confidence and competence.

People who have experienced or witnessed unsettling or frightening events -even abuse often struggle with painful memories, even physical sensations that can have an enduring nature having a negative effect in many areas of life. A person can even develop a sense of the world around them with a belief they aren't safe anywhere.

The effects of trauma can lie dormant resurfacing months and even years later, and in ways you may not be aware of, arising at times when you least expect. Often, we don't realize the connection between our present reactions such as avoiding or fearful of: people, places and situations reacting with anxiety or panic attacks, even anger that may seem disproportionate to the situation.

EMDR is one of the most researched therapies and has been proven to be very effective in the treatment of PTSD. It is also effective for working with a variety of issues including (but not limited to) physical, mental or sexual abuse, car accidents or witnessing a scary or life threatening event. It has also been shown to be helpful with a broad range of difficulties including depression, anxiety (including performance anxiety) and self esteem issues.

When we allow the opportunity for healing to occur, we develop new awareness of how past events are impacting our current life - even restricting our ability to make sound choices & decisions. With EMDR, you will notice a new sense of calm & freedom as you develop awareness of a wider range of choices and options in life - experience living your life more fully! When difficult events are resolved with EMDR, the memories are not erased - they just no longer carry the mental, physical and emotional charge they used to, nor do the memories of past events block us in unproductive ways.
